It seems as though everyone is ‘flashpacking’ these days – that is traveling with technology. Laptops, iPods, iPhones, Kindles, they all seem to be in the hands and backpacks of all travelers. We all travel differently but technology can be useful to bring along on your RTW trip, especially the following basics.
A Laptop
You’ll want to take some digital nomad tips and definitely bring along a laptop. There are some good options, Hewlett-Packard netbooks are small and affordable, Macbooks are reliable, and Dell has an assortment of good mid-range laptops.

An iPod Touch or iPhone
These versatile portable devices can be jailbroken to give you more options for apps. You can download and install some of the best iPhone apps for travelers and stay in touch during your trip, look up hostels and hotels, and watch movies to kill some time on long flights.

Kindle or Other eReaders
These portable libraries will save you weight and space in your backpack. They can be loaded with thousands of books, magazines, and updated regularly. There are several eReader options out on the market. Here’s a comparison of Amazon’s Kindle and Barnes & Nobles’ Nook.
